Description
Summary:
Mount Sumbing is one of A-type volcanoes located on the Central Java Province. Previous study about Sumbing Volcano is limited to general geological mapping and petrogenesis study without taking its rocks petrography into account. Based on this reason, the research is conducted with the purpose to identify the geomorphology, stratigraphy, magmatism, magma series and tectonics by the application of vulcanostratigraphy principles and its geochemistry. Methods used in this research are laboratory and field method. Laboratory methods include SRTM imagery, topography and satellite imagery analysis taken from Landsat-8 are conducted, then direct field observation and primary samples collecting including outcrop photos, locations and rock samples are conducted. Then, petrographic observations and geochemical analysis were performed using the XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) device. Geomorphology of research area is classified to five units based on landform classification. Stratigraphy of the research area is classified based eruption source, rock type and chronological order based on the vulcanostratigraphy principles. There is one Khuluk, which is Khuluk Sumbing with two Gumuk, Gumuk Buntu and Gumuk Windusari. The research area is divided into 23 rocks unit. Rock units found in the research area are lava dome, andesite lava and pyroclastic flow. Primary structures and secondary structures are found on the research area. Primary structures which are found on andesite lava including sheeting joint, vesicular and autobreccia. Secondary structures consist of Windusari Dextral Strikeslip and Klegung Dextral Strikeslip. Magmatism that occurred in the area were crystal fractionation, magma mixing and assimilation with calc-alkaline magma series in an active continental margin environment.
