Summary: | Tourism is one of the strategic sectors in Indonesia which utilizes many natural tourist attraction. This natural tourist attraction is highly affected by climatic conditions and changes. To deal with climate change, adaptation steps need to be taken. The step of climate change adaptation in the tourism sector requires planning and development of tourism that already has a consideration and study on climate change. Since tourism is a sector that involves a wide range of different stakeholders, in assessing climate change impacts on tourism, studies of different perspectives are required. This study aims to identify the impacts of climate change on tourism development from a stakeholder perspective through a case study of Kuta Beach tourist destination, Bali.

To achieve these objectives, this study uses quantitative and qualitative research methods. Quantitative methods are used to observe traveler’s perspectives through a questionnaire survey with descriptive statistical analysis in the form of frequency analysis and cross tabulation. Quantitative methods are also used in observing climatic conditions in the study area through descriptive statistical analysis on daily climate data obtained from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). Qualitative methods are used to observe the perspectives of other stakeholders, ie government, tourism entrepreneurs, and local village leaders. Qualitative methods used are interviews and observation.

The results of this study indicate that the awareness of tourists to climate change is quite high, although understanding of climate change tends to be 'normal'. Tourists also tend not to notice any changes in climate variables in the study area, although through analysis of daily climate data it is known that climate change is happening. Climate change variables that affect the tourist experience of Kuta Bali tourists are more related to safety, with the exception of variables relating to sudden and extreme weather changes. This is in line with the attention of the government and the hotels that make disaster as the main focus, instead of the symptoms of climate change that disrupt the tourism experience without having a safety risk. However, there is already a barrier construction by the governmen in Kuta Areat which is a form of climate change adaptation in reducing the wind-blown sand to tourist accommodation locations around the coast. It also shows the implications of climate change on tourism planning and development. Currently, climate change has already been integrated into studies and planning documents in the study area.

This study shows how climate change can influence travel decisions, tourism experiences, and how climate change can affect the development of Kuta Beach, Bali tourism and its surroundings through planning and adaptation steps. This study also shows that tourists tend not to know and pay attention to climate change directly in tourist destinations, making the attempt of observation of climate change needs coordination of government with local community. The study is expected to raise awareness of tourism stakeholders on climate change and climate change adaptation measures that can help the development of tourism.
