Description
Summary:
Maritime delineation can be executed by means of graphic or mathematical approach. By mathematical approach, the boundary coordinates are calculated using geodetic calculation method, some of which are Puissant formula, Bowring formula, Gauss formula and Vincenty formula. Out if those four, the Vincenty formula is the one used by IHO thus it is required to determine the method whose discrepancy is smallest compared to those of Vincenty’s since it stands to reason that each formula will yield different results, as well as the significance of the results’ difference. The deviation is determined by comparing the basepoints calculated by the formulas above. Through comparison, it is deducted that the formula with the smallest deviation from the Vincenty formula is the Gauss formula, while the biggest deviation resulted by the Puissant formula. The position deviation significance is determined by comparing the geodesic range from the calculation of the difference in latitude and longitude values of the boundary coordinates of territorial sea and extension zone sea from those four formulas with the value of the level of tolerancy. Through comparison, it is deducted that for the territorial sea only the comparison of Gauss-Vincenty results in insignificant deviation, while for the extension zone sea all comparison results in significant deviations.
