There are several factors that affect the risk of earthquakes in Bandung. First, the city is located in the major fault systems of West Java Province. Second, it has a soil condition which is a former ancient lake. Third, city’s resident’s growth and density. Fourth, it is lack of preparedness. The rapid rise in growth and development of Bandung has some side effect. Increasing the number of city residents will boost development activities, one of which settlements, while available urban land limited, impact on the emergence of slums. Slums should be managed although it requires a long time. However, by reviewing the existing potential hazards, disaster risk reduction can’t be postponed. Disaster risk reduction can be done through preparedness. Preparedness will vary according to differences in the characteristics of the population and culture. Slums have unique characteristics both physical and non-physical. Therefore, it is necessary to identify preparedness with the characteristics possessed by the slums and their relation to the alternative of slums management that can be done dealing with earthquake disaster. The study area selected based on Mayor’s Decision Letter No.648/Kep.286-DisTaRCip/2015 concerning the establishment of a slum area in the city of Bandung and the RADIUS study results in 1999 that the location chosen is Kelurahan Kebon Jayanti. This study is reviewing the preparedness from three parameters. They are knowledge, evacuation plans and capacity. The result of the three parameters slum communities are not prepared to deal with the disaster. While based on the correlation test all slum community characteristics both physical and non-physical has influence on the preparedness of each variable. However, non-physical characteristics have more influence on preparedness and need to intervene for dealing with earthquake disaster.<p align = "justify"> text
