Phenols and their derivatives are organic pollutants that cause

environmental problems because of their toxic nature. Therefore phenol

degradation is carried out using the photocatalytic method and TiO2 as the

catalyst. The first step taken in this research was to synthesize 1-butyl pyridinium

chloride ion, 1-butyl pyridinium tetrafluoroborate, and 1-butyl pyridinium

salicylate which were then characterized by NMR. Then the ionic liquid that has

been formed was used as a solvent for the synthesis of TiO2 with a ratio of ionic

liquids and water 3: 7 w / w. TiO2 that has been formed is characterized by XRD,

SEM, and BET to determine the effect of different ionic liquids on TiO2 structure.

In this study TiO2 has been synthesized in a solvent medium of various

pyridinium derivative ionic liquids which have a large surface area and have

pores. Photocatalytic activity of TiO2 compounds synthesized with a

mixture of BuPy-Salicylate: water (3: 7w/w) had the highest degradation

percentage of phenol, 92.86% then a mixture of BuPy-BF4: water (3: 7 w/w)

89.43%, BuPy-Cl: water (3: 7 w/w) 73.48% and water 65.05%.
