Problems arising from the waste

industry disposal consisted of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Suspended Solid (TSS)

which are in high concentrations. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the

effectiveness of aquatic plants as phytoremediation agent to improve Cikacembang River's water

quality. Prior to the experiment, preliminary study conducted by Baseline Point Test for 24 hours.

Based on the results of this test is known that the condition Cikacembang River fluctuated,

depended on the presence of textile waste and upstream conditions. Phytoremediation experiment

conducted in two ways: in Cikacembang River and in the laboratory. In field experiment, plants

used were water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes). Plants were placed on two nets with 2 x 1 x 1.5

m. Water samples collected at three different points; before the first net, between the nets and after

the second net. In this field experiment water samples collected on 0, 3, 5, 7, 14, 21, and 28 day of

experiment. The second experiment conducted in the laboratory. In this experiment used three

types of aquatic plants, namely; water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), water lettuce (Pistia

stratiotes) and kariba weed (Salvinia molesta). Water samples collected on 0, 3, 5, and 7 day of

experiment. It was found quite different results from these two experiments. In field experiment

there were removal and increase the percentage of contaminants, because the system of water

through the plant was continuous. In laboratory experiment, only water weed (Salvinia molesta)

which was able to survive and reduce the concentration of pollutants up to the last day of the

experiment. text
