Summary: | Urban Heat Island (UHI) negatively affects Environment and Socio-Economic Aspects, UHI is explained that when compared to undeveloped rural areas, urban areas are warmer in general, which is initially caused by city growth and increasing population. Thus, UHI mitigation is important to reduce the impact and for a sustainable city development. , in which green open space is one of the best ways of mitigation. This objective of this research is to provide possible scenarios for potential and feasible locations of green open spaces and other alternatives for UHI mitigation and fulfilling regulation, based on collected data. This research uses GIS spatial analysis by utilizing Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS Level 1 for land surface temperature extraction and land cover identification using Enhanced Built-Up and Bareness Index (EBBI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), which also complemented by field observation, drone documentation, and site temperature measurement. Meanwhile, to develop criteria for land suitability of green open spaces, questionnaire survey on 32 respondents in Palembang City, interviews with government and private developer and field observation are conducted. Based on the analysis, it can be revealed that Palembang City has potentiality to increase total area of green open space by 1.2% (435.78 Ha), Green rooftop by 0.8% (265.7Ha), Urban Garden by 1.8% (695.17Ha) and 32.59 km of road sections with green path. This will be a remarkable increase from the current 12.35% of total green open space of Palembang City. <br />
