TYPICAL DESIGN OF MECHANICAL BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT (MBT) FOR MUNICIPAL SCALE (SITE: SARIMUKTI LANDFILL)
The waste generation in Indonesia has increased, teaching 64 million ton/year in 2015 and 69% of the waste just dumped into direct landfill. The figures showed that Indonesian people still “Collect-Transport-Disposed” their waste. Moreover, 90% of Indonesia landfill are still open dumping land...

The figures showed that Indonesian people still “Collect-Transport-Disposed” their waste. Moreover, 90% of Indonesia landfill are still open dumping landfill which could cause negative impacts to environment as well as human such as emission of landfill gas, high generation of leachate, depleting land resources, aesthetic and health nuisance, and the risk associated with landfill stability. One of the solution as an environmental approach of solid waste management is by applying Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT). MBT is a residual solid waste treatment which mostly biodegradable through mechanical and biological processes. The waste input will be from residual traditional market waste with 75.45±7.73% of

organic waste. The chosen alternative of MBT consist of pre-mechanical treatment for bag opening, biological treatment for windrow composting in 5 weeks, postmechanical treatment for screening using a trommel screen and manual sorting, and additional facilities such as office, workshop, drainage, parking lot, and access roads. Total area of MBT is 2.1 Ha. This MBT process could reduce 34.1% volume of the waste, produce 46.97% biostabilised output for landfill daily cover, and meet landfill requirement with RA4 (5.13 mg O2/ g DW), GS21 (4.17 N L/kg DW), and particle size < 60 mm. text |
