In the selection of pumps, a pump that meets the needs and has a higher efficiency is certainly more desireable. In this final project, a mixed flow pump which has less satisfactory efficiency would be redesigned in the hope of increased efficiency. The performance and efficiency of a pump can be seen from its characteristic curve. The pump characteristic curve can be obtained by pump testing or numerical simulation. This final project consists of redesign process, modeling, and numerical simulation. Redesign was done on pump impeller by using double curvature method. The modeling process consisted of modeling pump components and pump fluid volume by using ANSYS Bladegen and Autodesk Inventor software. Numerical simulations were performed using ANSYS Fluent software. From the simulation results, it was found that the new design pump has greater volumetric flow rate range, higher head value, and maximum efficiency improvement with an average of about 7%.

text
