Water Flooding is a method which can be used for Pressure Maintenance and oil sweeping. Currently, analysis about Water Flooding is not focused on its mechanism because it is assumed that there is no homogen reservoir. The analysis of Water Flooding can be biased because of this assumption. So, in this study, simple homogen reservoir model is used so the analysis can be more focused on the mechanism..
The first step in this study is creating two big cases, one case is consist of four five-spot and one inverted five-spot and the other is one five-spot with four inverted five-spot. After that, subcases is made for those big cases and case with the most oil recovery is taken to be simulated again. This time, the case’s water injection rate is variated and the variation with the most oil recovery is analyzed so we can know the pattern. This pattern is validated by applying it to other model with different inplace.
The creation and simulation of the subcases can be a help in analyzing the effect of variables to Water Flooding efficiency. The variables are the presence of injection wells, number of wells, water injection rate and production rate. Varying the injection rate is done to know whether it can give more recovery or not. The pattern we can get from varying the water injection rate is validated to another model so we can know whether the same pattern can give more recovery if it is applied to another model with similar case (constant water injection rate) or not.
Based on this study, each variable, especially injection rate and production rate must be optimized. Greater injection rate not always give more recovery even prior to Water Breakthrough. Varying injection water rate by reduce, then increase, and so on can give more recovery. When the pattern is applied to another model, it still can give more recovery than flat injection rate. The result of this study not only aimed to get the desired result, but hopefully the analysis and also the recommendation can be a foundation for further analysis about Water Flooding’s mechanism. |
