Therefore, in this research, Himawari-8 satellite is used considering its higher temporal resolution that is 10 minutes. Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has produced hotspot product but the accuracy is still unknown so this product needs to be validated to be used optimally for monitoring the propagation of forest and land fires in Indonesia, especially in Central Kalimantan. <br /> <br /> <br /> The validation of Himawari-8 hotspot produced by JAXA was carried out using a single buffer technique to MODIS and Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) hotspots data as the fire points. Smoke detection is seen by combining band 3 (0.64 &#956;m), band 4 (0.86 &#956;m), and band 6 (2.3 &#956;m) data from Himawari-8 satellite. The pattern of hotspot detection and smoke distribution indicating the propagation of forest and land fires is analyzed based on reanalysis wind data from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). <br /> <br /> <br /> The validation of Himawari-8 hotspot produced by JAXA to some area of interest (AoI) in Central Kalimantan on October 2015 gives accuracy of 11.125% using MODIS hotspot in &#8805; 80% level confidence and is increased to 13.155% using hotspot MODIS in all confidence level. Monitoring the propagation of forest and land fires still can be done by overlaying the data of Himawari-8 hotspot produced by JAXA to the image of Himawari-8 satellite’s RGB false color despite its low accuracy. <p align="justify"> text
