Antioxidant compound that commonly found from <br /> <br /> plant is phenolic such as flavonoid which can donate a hydrogen atom or by single-electron transfer. <br /> <br /> Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) is one plant that empirically used as herbal medicine and contains many <br /> <br /> antioxidant compounds that are useful to protect cells from free radical. The objectives of this <br /> <br /> research were to study antioxidant activity of leaves, twigs and fruits of noni by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl1-picrylhydrazyl) and FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power); total phenolic and flavonoid <br /> <br /> content; analyze the correlation between total phenolic and flavonoid with their IC50 DPPH and EC50 <br /> <br /> FRAP, and also analyze the correlation beetwen DPPH and FRAP in sample extracts. Extraction was <br /> <br /> performed by reflux using three different polarity solvents such as n-hexana, ethyl acetate, and <br /> <br /> ethanol. Determination of IC50 DPPH, EC50FRAP, total flavonoid and phenolic content of each extract <br /> <br /> were performed by spectrophotometry uv-visible. Correlation of total phenolic and flavonoid <br /> <br /> content with their IC50 of DPPH and EC50 of FRAP were analyzed by Pearson’s method. Antioxidant <br /> <br /> activity of leaves, twigs and fruits extracts of noni showed IC50 DPPH in the range of 1.04 – 237.31 <br /> <br /> µg/mL dan EC50FRAP in the range of 262.22- 638.54 µg/mL. Ethyl acetate leaves extract of noni had <br /> <br /> the highest flavonoid content (10.61 g QE/100 g), meanwhile the highest phenolic content was given <br /> <br /> by ethyl acetate twigs extract of noni (3.47 g GAE/100 g). Total phenolic content in noni leaves <br /> <br /> extract was significantly negative with its IC50DPPH, while total flavonoid content in leaves, twigs and <br /> <br /> fruits extract of noni were significantly negative with its EC50FRAP. All leaves, twigs and fruits extracts <br /> <br /> of noni (except n-hexane fruit extract) were very strong antioxidant by DPPH method. Phenolic <br /> <br /> compounds were the main contributor in antioxidant activities by DPPH method. Flavonoid <br /> <br /> compounds were the main contributor in antioxidant activity of leaves, twigs and fruits exracts of <br /> <br /> noni by FRAP method.
