Summary: | To the southeast of the city of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, lies a deep deposit of volcanic clay put down in lacustrine conditions, but involving the influences of volcanic activity in the area as well as normal sedimenting processes. Interest in the geotechnical characteristics of the deposit arose when construction of the Padalarang - Cileunyi Toll Highway, which is aligned Across the deposit, was due to commence. A number of research studies into the engineering characteristics of the deposit ensued and were augmented by analysis of the monitored performance of a trial embankment constructed along the proposed route alignment in the centre of the deposit. |
