Description
Summary:
This research was conducted to develop a method for calculating appropriate engine power for range extender application. This method was developed by considering electric vehicle’s specification, driving cycle, road’s gradient profile, and powertrain component’s efficiency. The method that has been made is then tested with a case study. Case study in this research is modifying electric bus to become rangeextended electric bus. Base for the case study is simulation by using AVL Cruise software. Electric bus model used in this case study is medium-size bus with 36 persons capacity. Operating path used is the popular tourist path in Bali. This path is selected because Bali is the leading tourist area in Indonesia and to support Bali as a pioneer in green tourism. Engine power obtained from the calculation is 41,3 kW. This calculation is done assuming Japan 08 as the driving cycle and road’s gradient profile is 0% along the path.
