Summary: | The pore pressure analysis and the prediction of overpressure generating mechanism had been conducted on the Lhokseumawe oil field that situated in the offshore area north of Sumatera Island, as part of North Sumatera Basin that is known as one of the overpressure basin in Indonesia. Analysis was performed on seven wells that chose based on their fisiografis location, with another four wells near-by to support the analysis.

The result from pore pressure analysis shows that all the wells on the research area are overpressured wells, even since on the Seurula Formation.

The overpressure zones from every well are vary, depends on their fisiograhic location, as well as the appearance of top of oil window. In the Seurula Formation, the origin of overpressure is the loading process or disequilibrium compaction, while in the Keutapang and Baong Formations, the origin of overpressure is vary between loading and non-loading proses that caused by catagenesis of kerogen or diagenesis of clay from smectite to illite. |
