The transportation sector has an important role in achieve continuity of activity. One of the action to meet that demand is use of private vehicles. From one side, the existence of private vehicle can solve problem of the activity’s need. Meanwhile, many private vehicles would bring bad effect, such as rising carbon emissions in the atmosfer.It can increase greenhouse gas emissions and can be caused to increase temperature of earth’s surface. <br /> <br /> The current development paradigm has shifted to the concept of sustainable development that seeks to balance development not only from the economic and sosial aspects, but also pay attention to environment aspect. Likewise with <br /> <br /> transportation sector, in the context of reduction greenhouse gas emissions, the transportation sector has several strategies in National Action Plan for Reducing <br /> <br /> Greenhouse Gas (RAN GRK) consist of 1) Reducing the need for travel by land use arrangement (Avoid) 2) Shifting pattern the use of private vehicle to low carbon transportation mode (Shift) and 3) Improve energy efficiency and carbon reduction on motorize vehicle in transportation (Improve). <br /> <br /> This research try to identify how much benefit from the presence of rail road transport to the reduction of carbon emission if there is shift use of private <br /> <br /> vehicle to rail road transport. Transportation mode will be examined is Prambanan Exsperss Train (Prameks) route Yogyakarta-Solo in 2014. This research use quantitative methodology and use survey strategy (primary survey and secondary survey). This research focus in avoided carbon emission analysis from motorize transportation to Prameks Train route Yogyakarta-Solo.According to result this research, show that avoided carbon emission up to 36.014 tons of CO2 in one year. Meanwhile production carbon emisson from train up to 1.170 tons/year and from motorize transportation mode in trip chain travel outside Yogyakarta-Solo route up to 8.503 tons CO2/year. So carbon emission can decrease up to 26.340 tons/year. If the public use motorize transportation (baseline), production of carbon emission can reach 49.200 tons CO2 in a year. iv Shift transportation mode from motorize transportation (private vehicle) to train can reduce carbon emission 46%. This emissions reduction is still less than the reduction carbon emission from trains in Japan (Shinkansen and other <br /> <br /> conventional trains). If we see using of train data which is increase, that avoided carbon emission can be potential to reduce carbon emission from transportation sector. To reach that, capacity and quality form train service should be enhance and use of motorize transport (especially private vehicle) should be reduce. Not only like that, landuse arrangement has same important role to reduce movement activity and reduce production of carbon emission.<p align="justify"> text
