Description
Summary:The study of new basin hydrocarbon basin prospect is very important to be sought due to fulfill energy needs for mankind’s living. Berau Basin is one basin at Bird Head. This basin have equivalent stratigraphy and tectonic event like Bintuni Basin and Salawati Basin which proven to be hydrocarbon basin. Eksploration around Berau Basin had been made since the last 30 years with the drilling objective to test Kais Formation, Lower Kembelangan Formation dan Tipuma Formation. Gunung-1 well which located in Berau Basin is yet to find potential commercial reserves and other well is dry hole. Study in this area generally only at reservoir and trap study. Study of geochemistry and source rock maturity is rarely. This research will research about source rock geochemistry and make basin modeling base on Gunung-1 well data.

Source rock analysis had been done at every formation Gunung-1 well. Base of source rock analysis, Lower Kembelangan Formation and Tipuma Formation is the best rock sample for source rock in this basin. Lower Kembelangan Formation have poor to excellent (0.1-13.88 wt %), composed by tipe II-III of kerogen, and showing peak mature to late mature maturity (0.7-1.23%). Tipuma Formation have fair to good (0.72-2.49 wt %), composed by tipe II-III of kerogen, and showing late mature maturity (1-1.28%).

The Biomarker Lower Kembelangan Formation and oil sample had been analysis. Oil sample is showing posstive correlation and one family oil. The biomarker analysis between Lower Kembelangan and oil sample is showing positive correlation. The both composed from mixing organic material which deposition in estuarine environment.

Base on result of 1 dimension basin modeling, Lower Kembelangan Formation showing late mature maturity. Maturity of this formation is early mature at Late Cretaceous, peak mature at Late Paleocene and late mature at Middle Eocene.

Berau Basin have complete petroleum system element, however, time forming of element is important. Trap (MOKR) was formed at Late Mocene-Pliocene. Time of trap forming caused not form accumulation in this trap, because at this time source rock has been stopped generate hydrocarbon. Transformation ratio was acchive 100% at Early Oligosen.
