also on activities and ideas. As a dwelling culture product, the spatial of Bali Aga has a <br />
<br />
concept and meaning as a resource in its embodiment. Its recognizable existence at the <br />
<br />
period led by the Ancient Balinese Kingdom with its kings from the Warmadewa <br />
<br />
Dynasty, cause curiosity whether the inscription as historical record made by the kings, <br />
<br />
also organizing the spatial of Bali Aga? Its existence that can still be found until now, <br />
<br />
also cause curiosity, what makes it able to survive until now? It is becoming an <br />
<br />
increasingly interesting phenomenon to be researched as the concept of nearly 700 years <br />
<br />
ago can be found as a source of inspiration for some modern hospitality houses by <br />
<br />
foreign architects in the 20th century. This also cause curiosity again, how the architects <br />
<br />
and interior designers interpreting the spatial concept of Bali Aga that comes from <br />
<br />
hundreds years ago? <br />

As the first step of this research is to formulate the spatial concept of Bali Aga in <br />
<br />
generaly, to complete the result of Bali Aga spatial research thas has been done before. <br />
<br />
This qualitative research in synchronic and diachronic at 26 Bali Aga villages, at three <br />
<br />
districts of Bangli, Buleleng and Karangasem. Bali Aga villages as this research <br />
<br />
location are differentiated into Bali Aga villages that have been known in the early and <br />
<br />
late Ancient Bali period, which Sembiran C inscription (Caka 1103), the only <br />
<br />
inscription that organizing the spatial of Bali Aga, as the starting point of differentiating <br />
<br />
these categories. The research was done on the object of macro spatial in the form of <br />
<br />
settlement environment, as well as micro spatial in the form of yard and house. <br />
<br />
The result of this research indicate how Bali Aga people interpret their spatial. The <br />
<br />
spatial of Bali Aga is created without any hierarchy of social system that makes the <br />
<br />
spatial of Bali Aga has universal character. The spatial of Bali Aga is a home for Bali <br />
<br />
Aga people, all activities begin and end in it. The spatial of Bali Aga is created from <br />
<br />
problem-solving effort, very anthropocentric, as a vernacular character. But over time, <br />
<br />
this spatial is still be able to survive until now because of the traditional social system <br />
<br />
and the theological belief of the community that makes it has a traditional character. <br />
<br />
However, the continuity in interpreting the spatial concept of Bali Aga in Bali Aga <br />
<br />
people in present, also can not deny the changes of this spatial appearance. The changes <br />
<br />
in the physical appearance of this spatial not only as an effort to adapt the environment <br />
<br />
that has changed, but also caused by the changes of spirit of each different period. Some <br />
<br />
architects and interior designers are aware about it, trying to represent the spirit of <br />
<br />
spatial concept of Bali Aga from the era of its origin, by taking the iconic forms of Bali <br />
<br />
Aga spatial, adapted to the needs today. <br />
