Summary: |
Research was held in Cijemit area, Ciniru District, Kuningan Regency, Province of West Java in an area of 52.5 km2. The purpose of this geological mapping is to study the geological setting in research area. Primary data were collected directly from field observation. Several analysis have been used in order to complete the research, such as geomorphology, petrology, stratigraphy, micropaleontology, and structural geology.
The landscape of research area is closely related to lithologic and structural factors. Research area is divided into three geomorphologic units which are Ciniru Folding Hills, Pahampoan Folding Hills, and Pakembangan Alluvial Plain. Drainage pattern of research area is parallel. Geomorphic stage of the research area is at mature stage.

The oldest rock in the research area is Middle Miocene Marl-Limestone Unit which is deposited by turbiditic mechanism. This unit can be equated with Halang Formation. Afterwards, in the Late Miocene, Sandstone-Siltstone Unit which can be equated with Halang Formation deposited by turbiditic mechanism conformly above Marl-Limestone Unit. Deposits of Sandstone-Siltstone Unit contains volcanic ash from Late Miocene volcanic activity. There was a regional uplift process in the Pliocene until Early Pleistocene,. Furthermore, Pyroclastic Breccia Unit was deposited in Late Pleistocene which can be equated with Cipedak Volcanic Mudflow Deposit above all previously deposited units. Then, Aluvial Unit was deposited above all previous stratigraphic units.

Geological structures developed in the research area are strike-slip fault, reverse fault, and folds. Those structures were developed from relatively north-south principle stress due to compressive tectonics caused by subduction between Eurasian Plate and Indo-Australian Plate.
