Summary: | <p align="justify"> Pollination is an initial stage of generative seed plants proliferation process. In this process, the displacement of male gametes (in the form of pollen) into female gametes that generally occur with the help of specific agents / insects, especially bees is considered very effective as pollinating agent because of the reciprocal beneficial to plants. In modern farming systems, this process is generally assisted by the application of pollinators in the form of domesticated bees, such as stingless bees (Tetragonula laeviceps). Along with efforts to increase the efficiency of food biomass production on limited land some agricultural systems began to apply the intercropping system. In Indonesia, the intercropping system is relatively rare. Especially in apllication of pollinating agent itself. Based on that problem becomes background of this research. <br />

This research aims to observe the activity and efficiency of wild insects and Tetragonula laeviceps on the productivity of the bean and tomato plants that become population of the intercropping system. Plant beans and tomatoes grown using intercropping cultivation system with a spacing of 60 cm x 40 cm. The samples used were 10 plants of green beans and tomatoes with 10 replicates of each plant. Bee visits activity was observed using focal sampling method. Observation is done every hour for 5 minutes at 08.00-16.00 WIB for 4 days. The data generated in this study was analyzed using parametric test Independent sample T-Test with 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). <br />

The results showed wild insect flower visitors are Apis cerana beans on bean flowers have foraging rate, flowering time and visitation handling consecutive rate is 14.92; 2.67; 50,49 meanwhile the value for T. laeviceps is 6,81; 4.25; 49.51. Tomato flowers are not visited by bees. The level of fruit set in open pollination and pollination system T. laeviceps on bean plants was 41% while the rate of fruit set on a system of open pollinated tomato plants is 84% and pollination by T. laeviceps on tomato plants was 71%, although it did not get the visits of bees during the observation period. The beans produced in the open pollination group of beans have diameter, length and weight respectively of 7.2 mm; 14.47 mm; 7.07 grams meanwhile in the pollination group T. laeviceps was 6.9 mm; 12.01 mm; 5.2 grams in sequence. On the other hand, tomato plants in open pollination groups produce tomatoes with diameter, length and weight respectively of 28.34 mm; 29.85 mm; 14.76 grams meanwhile in the pollination group with T. laeviceps had a value of 29.45 mm; 32.65 mm; 17.75 grams in sequence. <p align="justify"> |
