Summary:Batang Arau River is one of the river located in Padang, West Sumatera. At present the Batang Arau River has been polluted according to the results of the Padang City Environmental Impact Management Agency (Bapedalda), namely there have been several parameters that have met the standards of the West Sumatra Governor Regulation No. 5 of 2008 concerning Determination of River Water Quality in West Sumatra such as BOD, DO, phosphate, nitrite, chloride and oil and grease. Therefore, the control of the air pollution of the Batang Arau River needs to be done. So that, we need the control of water pollution in Batang Arau River. The purpose of this research is to find out how the community around Batang Arau River in assessing the importance of pollution control and to know the value of willingness to pay the community around Batang Arau River by Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) as effort to improve the quality of Batang Arau River. This analysis shows that 93% of respondents were willing to support the effort to improve the water quality of this river, but only 85.5% of respondents were willing to do this. WTP analysis in an effort to improve the water quality of the Batang Arau River with CVM shows that the level of willingness to pay the community (WTP) is Rp. 8,546.78 / KK / month. The size of the community's WTP is influenced by the impact of pollution, age, education, job, income and expense.
