Summary: | <p align="justify">South part of Bandung railway station area has a role as city public space which accomodates area user activities and very much affects the development of environment. The area becomes a junction beetwen various education, housing, office, commercial, and public facilities. But in progress, station area is declining. This situation is indicated by the condition of public space which is declining physically, abandoned by users, and transforming into underused or slum area. Based on that reasons, therefore station area needs to be revived again through redesigning the public space in the form of open space and new facilities are capable to become activities centre of the area. <br />
<br />
Inability to accommodate user behaviors of public space causes the space being abandoned, changing, and underused. Therefore, public space observation of station area is focused on behavior pattern, phsyical order, and impact of connection beetwen the two. Application of observation result in design is determined by the type of milleu which is capable to accommodate user behavior. Circulation problems like difficulty of vehicle access, pedestrian route which is uncomfortable to use, and unavailability of a facility that able to become activities centre or destination of people movement in the section of Statsion Timur and Statsion Barat street also become the reason of public space quality degradation. <br />

Based on the result from analysing of existing condition, history, development, people social and economy condition, and potency of the area therefore public space that is needed at station area takes the form of open space provided with public and commercial facilities. In this thesis, the design of public space at South part of Bandung railway station area is made based on necessity (activities of relaxing, socializing, taking care of children, playing, selling, shopping, sigh seeing, holding performance, and eating or drinking) and behavior of station area user. Whereas public and commercial facilities are designed based on necessity and related with important functions already exist in station area. These facilities are in the form of transit terminal both inside and between cities, stopping place, telephone stall, information centre, office, minimarket, toilet, praying area, parking lot, multipurpose room, eating area, shopping area, and entertainment area. These facilities are aimed to create crowd and stimulate the creation of movement from one facility to another inside station area. This condition causes every part of the station area become thriving by various activities and people movement. Through design of open space and various facilities (public and commercial), the problem of a neglected area in station area hopefully could be overcome.<p align="justify"> <br />
