Summary: |
PD analysis has been one of the most important methods to assess the quality of HVAC cable. As for HVDC cable, due to the difficulties to perform PD tests under DC voltage, PD testing under AC is being used. However, doubts arise concerning the feasibility of this approach in that PD tests under AC voltage might reject the effect of correlated factor such as the existence of space charge that might have large effect on the electric field distribution in HVDC cable.
In order to investigate that, in this thesis, theoretical formula/model derived from equivalent circuit that used at PD test to get some relation and understanding of PD parameters such as PD repetition rate and PD charge amplitude as effect of frequency and temperature. XLPE cable and XLPE bulk specimens with cavity at insulation as a defect will be used as a test object and models of real cable insulation with similar defects and will be tested under AC and DC voltage. To carry out this investigation, a technique for measuring PD with high sensitivity under AC and DC voltage will be devised. This measurement data used to confirm the model result, so that in the future, more accurate diagnosis and model can be made close to the real condition.
|
