These dyes are difficult to degrade, toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic for living cells. <br /> <br /> Adsorption is one of methods that easy, effective and inexpensive for removing neutral red in liquid <br /> <br /> waste. In this study, calcium alginate was synthesized from the reaction between Ca2+ ions and <br /> <br /> sodium alginate in aqua dm. The formed calcium alginate granules are used as adsorbents to adsorb <br /> <br /> neutral red. Characterization of adsorbents was carried out using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) <br /> <br /> analysis and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The optimum conditions was determine in <br /> <br /> various parameters such as pH, initial concentration of dyes and contact time. The results shows that <br /> <br /> the optimum adsorption was reached at pH 4, initial concentration of 200 ppm and contact time for <br /> <br /> 240 minutes. Furthermore, the adsorption process of neutral red by adsorbents follows the Langmuir <br /> <br /> isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 47.85 mg g-1. The kinetics study shows that <br /> <br /> neutral red adsorption follows a pseudo second order kinetics model. The results of kinetic studies <br /> <br /> show that the adsorption process is endothermic with the value of &#916;Ho = 8,040 kJ.mol-1, and the value <br /> &#916;So = 0,0096 kJ mol-1.K-1 text
