THE DRILLING FAILURE POST MORTEM ANALYSIS OF KAI BESAR -1 WELL EXPLORATION, KAI ISLAND, MOLUCCA
Kai Besar -1 well was drilled by Union Texas on Kai Besar Island, Maluku as exploration well. Kai Besar – 1 well was drilled on 26 November 1996 and reached a total depth of 10500 feet (3200m) on February 3, 1997. The lithology is composed of shale, sandstone, limestone and limestone. No signific...

The result of the analysis shows the potential of the source rock is malita formation with total organic content (TOC) from 0.5 to 3% and the average TOC is 1.611% of the total rock weight which is quite good. This type of kerogen from the sorce rock is the type 3 that will produce gas. The window of hydrocarbon maturity was found at a depth interval of 2350 with a reflectance vitrinite 0.6.
