THE DRILLING FAILURE POST MORTEM ANALYSIS OF KAI BESAR -1 WELL EXPLORATION, KAI ISLAND, MOLUCCA

Kai Besar -1 well was drilled by Union Texas on Kai Besar Island, Maluku as exploration well. Kai Besar – 1 well was drilled on 26 November 1996 and reached a total depth of 10500 feet (3200m) on February 3, 1997. The lithology is composed of shale, sandstone, limestone and limestone. No signific...

No significant gas readings. Drill steam test (DST) is not performed on this well. In Neogen, Paleogen, Cretaceous, no significant hydrocarbons are found, whereas at the Jura interval there are minor gases and minor hydrocarbons. The status of the Kai Besar – 1 well is Pluged and Abandoned.

This research was conducted by reviewing and analyzing 1 drilling wells, ie, Kai Besar - 1 well and 19 of seismic 2D. Analysis conducted by reviewing petroleum system, to know the element and process of petroleum system.

The result of the analysis shows the potential of the source rock is malita formation with total organic content (TOC) from 0.5 to 3% and the average TOC is 1.611% of the total rock weight which is quite good. This type of kerogen from the sorce rock is the type 3 that will produce gas. The window of hydrocarbon maturity was found at a depth interval of 2350 with a reflectance vitrinite 0.6. Potential reservoir rocks in this study were Malita Formation Sandstones with an average porosity value of 4% obtained from petrophysical calculations and from thin section ranging from 7-10%. The seal rock is a Plover Formation that is above it with a thickness of 492.52m. Based on the seal capacity analysis shows that the gas column height is 308.96m. So that the seal rock can withstand gas leakage. The trap on the drilling of the Kai Besar - 1 well is a structural trap, but based on the interpretation made it shows that the drilling point of the Kai Besar - 1 well is not on the hydrocarbon trap. text
