Summary: | Electrolysis is one of chemistry material taught in high school that often hardly to

be understood by the students. One way to improve student’s understanding about

electrolysis is using a practical method. However, one of the obstacle that

generally should be faced by students in their school is limited of equipment and

apparatus. In this research, compiling series of micro-scale model with lithium

CR2032 battery as an electric current’s source and copper plates as an electrodes

has been done. These series have been tested into some of qualitative reaction

such as electrolysis of water, NaCl solution, KI solution, and CuCl2 solution in

standard condition. Result observed from this experiment is litmus color changing

from red into blue during electrolysis of water, NaCl solution, and KI solution.

Meanwhile, precipitation of copper also occurred from electrolysis of CuCl2.

Beside of that, these equipment model also used for studying electric current and

time effects for some amount of copper precipitation yield from electrolysis of

CuCl2 solution. These equipment also has been tested to grade X of high school

students. Most of the students denote that these equipment is able to be used as

electrolysis micro-scale model. |
