Description
Summary:
Pawon Cave is one of cultural heritage sites that important to be preserved because it stores many historical relics of ancient times. However, the existence of Pawon Cave increasingly faded due to lack of existing facilities and damage of karst rock in Pawon Cave because of visitors who act carelessly and not keeping well. The existence of archaeological museum is needed to keep a collection of relics and to educate people so that damage of karst rock can be reduced. This museum project is located in Gunung Masigit Village, Padalarang, West Bandung Regency with a land area about 1.3 hectares. This project was initiated by the government in cooperation with private parties, i.e. environmental observers, Bandung Archeology Center, and some archaeological communities. Because of this project is located in cultural and nature reserve areas of the government, this museum must respect surrounding of natural conditions. The design approach is based on key issues that come up from the site, building function, and initiator. From these issues, the concept of this museum is ‘Another Hidden Cave’ that focuses on creating an iconic place but still respect surrounding natural context. The museum is present to be a cave with the concept of an indoor space similar with the cave and the concept of outdoor space using natural elements, such as soil, water, rocks, vegetation, and wood.
