Description
Summary:Shopping malls will continue to grow in the capital city and its surrounding areas over the next few years. In order to keep occupancy comfort inside the mall, air conditioning system is one of the important utilities that a mall must have. The air conditioning system has to be designed to meet the thermal comfort standards, and also has to be designed efficiently both from energy and economy aspect.

The design of the air conditioning system for malls consists of cooling load estimation, air conditioning system selection, air conditioning system main components selection, air conditioning system piping design, followed by the electrical energy consumption calculation and life-cycle cost (LCC) analysis in order to determine the best alternative system .

The peak cooling load of the mall building is 4961.47 kW (1410.77 TR). The air conditioning system alternatives for this mall building are central system with capacity of 3 × 500 TR and 2 × 750 TR, with or without VSD. Based on the energy and LCC analysis for 20 years, the selected alternative system is VSD chiller system with capacity of 3 × 500 TR, because of the lowest energy consumption index and total life-cyle cost it has, respectively, 122,28 kWh/m2/year and Rp127.723.645.807.
