Development of Monitoring Tool for Software Project Based on Essence

Essence has been developed by Object Management Group (OMG) as standard for defining software development method. With Essence, project manager can compare one method with another method by changing that methods to be Essence standard first before comparing it. Besides that, project manager also can define their own method in Essence’s standard according to software project needs and characteristics. In project management there are monitoring process group that can help project manager to monitor project so that project can be done on time and with agreed specifications. Nowadays monitoring tool can support only one certain method, there are not yet monitoring tool that can support various methods, not only one method. Essence make it possible to develop monitoring tool that can support various methods as that methods are defined in Essence’s standard. In this final project is built monitoring tool for software project progress that can receive input various methods that are defined in Essence’s standard. This tool can receive project progress data and can monitor according to method that is used on that project. Progress project data that become input is update status in Essence’s kernel element, such as alpha state, alpha checklist, activity space, activity, and work product. This tool can be used to monitor project progress according to alpha states that are achieved and alpha checklist that are done. Monitoring project progress also can be done according to concern Essence kernel. Besides that, this tool also can be used for monitoring project progress according to that project’s activity space and activity status. This tool is developed by using Meteor framework and MongoDB as DBMS. This tool has been successfully built and tested its functionalities with black box testing. This tool has been successfully received various methods that are defined in Essence’s standard. Besides that, this tool also can update project progress and monitor project progress according to method that is used on that project. <br />
