Summary:Spontaneous combustion can be a serious problem especially for mining activities because it can be a source of fire, including in the stockpile. Guney, (1968) shares the causes of spontaneous combustion into intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors such as pyrite, moisture, particle size, etc. and extrinsic factors such as oxygen concentration, temperatur, ambient conditions and other factors. This study focuses on the effect of grain size (intrinsic factor) and compaction (extrinsic factor) on spontaneous combustion behavior. The grain size variations used in this study were -65 + 100 # (0,149-0,208mm), -100 + 200 # (0.074-0.149 mm) and -200 + 325 # (0,044-0,074mm) with a compact degree of 50 kPa, which will be compared with the research from Insani, 2018 which conducted the same research with the degree of compaction 0 kPa. This grain size was chosen because it had never been tested before, while the compaction was assumed to be derived from Komatsu D85ESS Bulldozer ground pressure of 50 kPa. This study using adiabatik oxidation method with oxygen gas flowrate0.05 L/min to the test tube. From this study obtained, the greater the degree of compaction the 𝑅70value will be smaller (inversely proportional). This is obtained by comparing the 𝑅70 values obtained from the current study with the Insani study, 2018. The values of 𝑅70 samples with grain size -65 + 100 # (0,149-0,208mm), -100 + 200 # (0.074-0.149 mm) and - 200 + 325 # (0,044-0,074 mm) in sequence is 4.50; 10.29; 16.78 °C/h for the first experiment with 50 kPa and 5.60 compacts; 9.52; 16.32 °C/h for second experiment with 50 kPa compaction.
