One implementation is to refurbish or reuse readily-available, older pumps, rather than purchasing new ones. However, the endeavor arises some problems, in which older pumps often lack the complete information about its specifications and especially, the characteristic curves, which are crucial for users to determine the operating region of the pump. Therefore, the pump is modelled and tested before being used.

Modelling is done with Computational Fluid Dynamics software ANSYS CFD, in four different impeller rotational speed, 1480, 1800, 2000, and 2200 rpm. The modelling serves as a preliminary analysis of the pump’s characteristics. Further, the pump is being tested, both to validate the modelling results, and to determine the actual performance characteristics of the pump. The test is done only with one rotational speed, 1480 rpm, due to the limitations in the laboratory equipments. Data gathered from modelling and testing is then analyzed into the characteristic curves of head, power, and efficiency with flowrate. In general, the trend of the curves resembles those of literatures. Comparing the curves obtained from modelling and experiment in 1480 rpm, both have similar trends in all curves, but significantly different values of several parameters such as head and efficiency, especially when the pump is operating at a relatively high flow rate.
text
