Summary: |
Many efforts have been done in increasing the comfort level of train’s passenger, which are in line with the increase of public interest in using this mode of transportation. Increased comfort is done not only in the stage of the new train design, but also in the train that is operating in stations. The improvement of the

comfort condition related to the acoustic condition in the passenger train is one of the priorities of PT. KAI as the operator of railway services in Indonesia. The issue that arises is that the improvement of acoustic comfort conditions can not be done only by changing the design of the active operating train. This study aims to evaluate and improve the sonic environment of the passenger

train in terms of passenger perception without changing the design of trains. The evaluation of the sonic environment condition of the passenger train is performed

by in-situ measurement, while the sonic environment improvement is carried out by laboratory experiment. In-situ measurement is conducted to obtain the objective

parameters of the passenger train's sonic environment and the initial perception of passenger towards audial sensation of the passenger train. Laboratory experiment

is conducted to determine the required interference in order to improve the positive perception of passenger on sonic environment of passenger train. This method is

carried out in three stages; beginning with reproduction, simulating a sonic environment and designing a sonic environment (soundscape composition) to suit with passenger's comfort. The measurement and evaluation of the sonic environment of passenger train is carried out in the Argo Parahyangan train with variation of conditions: Executive class at daytime (71.6 dBA), Economy class at daytime (71.6 dBA), Executive class at night (72.1 dBA) and Economy class at night (70.6 dBA). Evaluation of

passenger's perception questionnaire provides three dominant perceptions which are Safe (40%), Relaxation (11%) and Dynamic (6%). The improvement of the sonic

environment of passenger train was done by asking the respondent to listen to the recording of each variation of the passenger train's sonic environment and adding

sound to the environment. The data obtained in this experiment is simulated for assessment of passenger train soundscape. The addition of certain sounds have significantly improved the three dominant perceptions (Safe, Relaxation, and Dynamic) in three passenger train's sonic environments (Executive at daytime, Economy at daytime and Executive at night). The additional sound that were found capable to improve the perception of passenger on the Executive class at daytime is relaxing instrumental music at the level of 53.3 dBA, the Economy class at daytime is required sundanese traditional music at the level 70.9 dBA, and the Executive class at night is added relaxing instrumental music at level 53.3 dBA. While on the Economy class at night, additional music do not provide increased perception of passenger due to

passenger's activity patterns.
|
