Summary:Arthritis is a disease that attacks the joints. In Indonesia, Arthritis disease suffered by many people <br /> <br /> in the age of 46 - 60 years where Arthritis is the second sequence of illness suffered by elderly as <br /> <br /> much as 51.9% after hypertension as much as 57.6% and stroke as much 46.1% in third order data <br /> <br /> Riskesdas year 2013. Arthritis disease is a disease that can attack all people, but many people who <br /> <br /> think that the disease is a disease that commonly occurs in old age. In fact, Arthritis disease if left <br /> <br /> to dissolve, certain types of arthritis can be fatal that decrease quality of life and productivity of <br /> <br /> patients up to 24 - 31%; resulting in various disruptions and disabilities; causing dependence on <br /> <br /> others; sometimes even leading to premature death. Joints that do not work well in elderly people <br /> <br /> with Arthritis of course inhibit their daily activities or commonly called the ADL (Activity Daily <br /> <br /> Living), because the joints are the most important part of the body where we can grasp objects, <br /> <br /> walk, and move all members body. According to Brunner & Suddart (2001) basically the elderly <br /> <br /> have 5 main activities that is eating, bathing, toileting, mobilization and dressing. These five <br /> <br /> activities will be very difficult if done by the elderly who suffer from arthritis. During this existing <br /> <br /> product is not all in accordance with patients with arthritis one of them is a cutlery. The design of <br /> <br /> the existing cutlery has not been supportive or supportive of Arthritis sufferers to be able to perform <br /> <br /> activities independently and well. Therefore, there is a need for a special tableware design for <br /> <br /> elderly people with Arthritis to support their eating activities.
