Description
Summary:
This research is focused on the acoustic environment and the patient's perception of hospital environment by utilizing the soundscape approach. Through both subjective and objective measurement, this research quantifies sound pressure level while distributing surveys for the latter approach. The objective result shows that the acoustic condition of inpatient rooms during the day are still exceeding the Noise Standard issued by SNI 03-6386-2000 within the range of 48.3 – 60.1 dBA caused by the activities of the hospital that tend to be crowded.

As for the subjective approach, there are five major aspects based on the survey results that should be implemented by the hospital for an excellent inpatient service. Among them are privacy, convenience, room dynamic, fear, an enjoyment for 17.71%, 13.37 %, 13.23 %, 12.44%, and 10.68% respectively. There are five out of thirteen identified perceptions which are modelled in this research. There are, disturbing – comforting, spacious – narrow, noisy – quiet, open – private, and enjoyed – annoyed with the accuracy model in the range of 61 – 82.8 %. In general, the parameter that affected patient’s perception is the disturbance and the dominance coming from the source of sound in the hospital surroundings.

Improvement to the sonic environment is modified based on the result of the identified ideal condition also the source of sound that causes disturbance for each inpatient rooms. Therefore in general, our recommendation comes down to an improvement on managerial perspective and adjustment of the room to patient’s perception and its acoustic environment.
