Description
Summary:
Pharmacy of outpatient unit at RSAU.dr.M. Salamun Bandung is one of the military outpatient pharmacies that became referral for patients of BPJS program, that serves more than 500 recipes per day. This study aims to design improvements that are applied and proposed to improve performance on administrative processes, service processes and drug procurement processes with lean hospitals method and 8E-1M operability system. In addition, this study examines the contemporary problems that occur in pharmacies, namely the problem of prevention of expired drugs and the handling of counterfeit drugs with 8E-1M operability system. This research is one of the efforts that could be done to provide excellent service to patients of outpatient pharmacy.

In this study, observations were made on administrative processes, service processes and drug procurement processes at outpatient pharmacies. The results then mapped into the value stream mapping (VSM) and are grouped into three categories: value-added activities, non value-added activities and necessery non value-added activities. Non value-added activities were analyzed to determine the various causes that would be problematic with the (5 whys) root cause analysis. There are three main problems in the outpatient pharmacies: unreadable doctor's writing, no standardization of drug regulation and uncontrolled availability of drugs, and two contemporary problems in outpatient pharmacies: drug prevention and fake drug treatments.

Application of improvement with lean hospital at outpatient pharmacy RSAU.dr.M. Salamun Bandung can reduce patient waiting time 51% and reduce process time 43%. Handling uncontrolled availability of drugs, false drug prevention, and fake drug handling is done by creating an 8E-1M operability system.
