Description
Summary:
Human methods in conducting built environment in urban area has given disturbance effect of environment, atmospheric, aquatic and soil. Human tends to use various air condition’s equipment, such as AC usage which consume energy and gives CO2 emission. Settlement's method which harmony to environment has been indicated by village’s vernacular community in remote areas in Banten, which do not consume excessive energy and disturb the environment. Local wisdom’s study in vernacular village in various areas in Indonesia and other Asia countries indicate that thermal comfort is still a research focus. Therefore it need wider research, which include climatic adaptation in equatorial tropic area, such as Indonesia. Local wisdom has been ignored by contemporary people, such as environment’s sustainable values which involve building durability and nature’s carrying capacity. Therefore, such vernacular wisdom must be revealed through people of Cikeusik kampong (Baduy Dalam), Kanekes village, Lebak regency, Banten province. The goal of research is: a) to understand local wisdom in climatic’s adaptation mode of Cikeusik village’s people, 2) to evaluate the degree of effectiveness of each climatic mode, c) to develop the potential of local wisdom in climatic adaption of contemporary settlement. The scope of climatic adaptation include: climate modification, durability, and nature'carrying capacity.

This research as broaden of such previous research, such as climatic performance, both environment and building. The research is aprroached by descriptive-quantitative method, through series of activities, such as: 1) literature study on climatic adaptation of vernacular architecture, 2) field data collection, with purposive sampling, 3) analyzing the effectivity of climatic adaptation mode, 4) interpretation of various analyzes, 5) revealization of adaptation mode which can be developed, 6) strategic steps for developing local wisdom conceptually, and technically.

The empiric measurement of climate elements which is followed by analyzes of its corelation with building physics, and analyzes of various climatic curves, support the research conclusion about local wisdom of Cikeusik kampong, such as; vernacular built environment and building of Kanekes village, especially Cikeusik kampong (Baduy Dalam) is a form of adaptation mode to mountainous climate. Adaptation method of climatic environment is implemented in three scales, such as: 1) scale of Kanekes village include efforts to preserve the mountenous nature, which is indicated by horizontal zoning and vertical zoning, 2) scale of kampong include open space, nature topography, kampong axis of north-south, configuration of buildings position, 3) scale of building include building orientation, raised floor, the form of roof, the opening area which is small, and fireplace. The gradation of material usage is based on recyled-capability, and material durability.

The research is hoped to be able to give benefit, which include: a) theory, such as the understanding more deeply about local wisdom of vernacular community in climatic adaptation through passive design, both environment and building, b) pratice is the imlementation of local wisdom vernacular community in environment engineering with locality approach in adaptation with local climate, which involve consideration of material durabilty and natural resource support.
