| Summary: | <p align="justify">This dissertation aims to develop proper methodology for the current development of social roles in architecture by offering design as generator for empowering community. Thus a specific methodology called ‘Design as Generator’ (DAG) that combines research, action and design will be build by combining PAR (Participatory Action Research) and its LTA (Look-Think-Act) framework with DT (Design Thinking) and its HCD (Human Centered Design) toolkit for social innovation projects – resulted in Mixed Methods research model within the Sequential Embedded Experimental research design. This model allowed research that combines design research and action research, while in the same time this alternative research tool will allow the researcher to investigate architecture along its quantitative sides (as experimental innovations) as well as its qualitative sides (as experience and appreciation of participatory endeavors). Hence, the new alternative research tool will provide comprehensive understanding and new values to architecture, in virtue of its design innovation and response to its social context. The methodology will help the research to explore possibilities in how: (1) design becoming a champion and generating awareness, (2) generating endless creativity, and (3) generating others. The research itself is conducted in Kampong Pondok Pucung, Tangerang Selatan, West Java where DAG 1st prototype is already prearranged, Rumah Besi - the experimental dwelling that will serve as Architectural and Social Innovation Experiment. In the end the research will consider the possibilities of DAG as system or policy regarding community empowerment through design.<p align="justify"> |
