It is used to carry the content of fluid (such as oil and gas) from the subsea wellhead to offshore facilities. Design of offshore pipeline systems requires a comprehensive procedure based on the standards and recommended practice to avoid failures. The design of offshore pipeline systems including wall thickness calculation, on bottom stability, and free span. Free span of pipeline is a span that caused an empty space between pipeline and seabed. Free span is important to be analyzed to avoid pipeline from failure. The failure caused by free span that can be happened in pipeline could be fatigue because of VIV phenomenon and cracking due to its weight. Analysis of free span must be based on the DnV RP F105 Free Spanning Pielines. There are some factors that contribute to the length of free span of pipeline, such as the material factor of pipeline, the weight itself, and the hydrodynamic factors such as wave and current. Before analyzing the free span, the offshore pipeline must be fulfill the design criteria for wall thickness and on bottom stability. The length of allowable static free span actually is longer than the length of dynamic free span.<p align="justify"> text |
