X is an industry engaged in the production of rayon fiber (viscose) which is widely used in the garment industry as a clothing and clothing complementary materials. With a total production of 325,000 tons of rayon fiber per year, PT. X needs to pay attention to the impact of production related to the environment, especially on waste produced either liquid, gas, or solid waste. The party which is responsible for the processing of liquid waste is WWTP Department. WWTP Department is divided into 2 division, namely WWTP 1 and WWTP 2. WWTP 1 processes liquid waste from line 1, line 2, and line 3 departments with an acceptable maximum capacity of 1500 m3/hour, while WWTP 2 processes liquid waste derived from line 4 and line 5 with an acceptable maximum capacity of 500 m3/hour. However, there is a problem in WWTP 2 that is the mismatch between the existing rate of flow and the planning rate of flow caused by the inability of the secondary processing unit to accommodate the planning rate of flow in the amount of ± 500 m3/hour, since the current WWTP 2 operational rate of flow is only ± 400 m3/hour. The limited capacity of waste water rate of flow that can be processed in WWTP 2 certainly causes the restriction of liquid waste production in order to avoid overloading both in WWTP 1 and WWTP 2. To overcome the low level of WWTP 2 operational rate of flow and the over capacity of WWTP 1 due to the production of liquid waste most of it is transported to WWTP 1, it is necessary to increase the capacity of WWTP 2 rate of flow with the calculation method of maximum rayon fiber production (325,000 tons/year) and an increase factor from the highest quantity of waste water achieved in the influent WWTP 2 (45.48 m3/ton rayon fiber product). Capacity increase is done by multiplying the highest ratio of waste water quantity and quality standard with safety factor of 30%, so it’s obtained the rate of flow after the increase of liquid waste production at the maximum production of rayon fiber is 2193.75 m3/hour. With WWTP 1 capacity of 1500 m3/hour, the WWTP 2 planning rate of flow capacity is 693.75 m3/hour or rounded to 700 m3/hour. text |
