THE ROLE OF BIODIGESTER IN THE TECHNOLOGY OF BANDUNG CITY WASTE TREATMENT SCENARIO TOWARDS GREEN HOUSE GAS EMISSION

Currently, the utilization of biodigester has been widely used in Bandung to solve the city waste problem with its dominant organic waste composition (56.9%). This technology has several benefits to prevent the occurrence of problems for human and environmental health caused by waste, reducing green...

This technology has several benefits to prevent the occurrence of problems for human and environmental health caused by waste, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the waste sector, reducing dependency on Landfill (TPA), thus as to reduce costs associated with landfill utilization and other benefits. Based on survey results biodigester that is working for household scale biodigester is 75%, and communal scale of 33.3%. In this study, three scenarios were developed to look at the effect of biodigester on greenhouse gas emissions by involving the garbage transportation sector, waste treatment with insenerator technology, landfill as well. From the result of the analysis, GHG emission from scenario 1 (business as usual) by 2,270 Gg CO2eq, scenario 2 produces GHG emissions in the value range between of 551Gg CO2 (based on treatment target with biodigester) and 1,468 Gg CO2eq (based on existing treatment condition with biodigester minimum treatment), and scenario 3 produces GHG emission in the value range between of 864 Gg of CO2eq (based on treatment target with biodigester) and 2,136 Gg of CO2eq (based on existing treatment condition with biodigester). Based on the analysis, scenario 2 is the scenario that produces least GHG emissions.

text
