Summary: | There is a critical shortage of the availability of natural in aggregate for production of concrete especially in urban areas and precast manufacture, while in the other hand there is increasing quantities of demolished concrete from absolute structures are generated as waste material in the near area. Most demolished concrete can be processed to yield aggregates for production of new concrete even though some properties may be changed due to old cement mortar that remains attached to the natural aggregate. The investigation performed to analyze a failure mechanism of cylinder under uniaxzal compression. Cylinders of three different diameters (80, 100 and 150 mm) were tested and for all of the cylinders, the ratio of height and diameter was 2. The cylinders were made of High Strength Fly Ash Concrete with maximum aggregate 14.5 mm and cured with two methods, which is spray room (SR) and accelerated curing box (ACB). The compressive strength (fc') of concrete was found 45 MPa and 46 MPa for SR at 28 days and ACB at 1 days, respectively for 150 mm cylinder diameter and tend decrease with smaller diameters. The results reveal the existence of significant size effect that can be describe by Bazant's law for size effect for both curing methods Indication of plastic failure occure at the smaller diameter specimen |
