Summary: | Serious Game (SG) has been used in many fields of education and training. SG has also been used to help teachers or educators to teach students so that they can improve their ability to understand subjects using game simulation tools. On the other hand, music has become a big element in the world of entertainment. Thus, this study proposes a new framework to help software developers to make serious games used for learning musical instruments.
This study discusses the idea of an SG scheme and how existing SG can be used to provide design guidelines by developing a framework. Thus, SG developers for musical instrument games can easily map aspects of learning, describe software designs, and explain how to control them with a special interface for learning musical instruments.
The framework was developed from the process of analyzing several previous studies and related to components related to musical instrument game. This framework is implemented in three case studies: a game that learn saron, kendhang, and angklung. Each framework component is mapped to a case study resulting in three games. The result of validation shows that this framework has been able to help game developers to make musical instrument games effectively and efficiently.
