Indonesia as one of the largest archipelagic country in the world is one of the pioneers in terms of proposal of the archipelagic sea lanes. Indonesia has proposed three ALKI to the United Nations, namely ALKI I, II, and III. At first UN rejected the proposal because the proposed ALKI is only available for the North – South lanes, while the East - West is also considered necessary for international navigation. However, after a compromise between Indonesia and the United Nations, the proposal of the three ALKI was eventually accepted with one condition, that this proposal is a partial and incomplete ALKI and will soon be complemented by Indonesia. Because of this, the foreign countries that often use the territorial waters of Indonesia encourage Indonesia to immediately complement ALKI by setting the East – West lanes of ALKI. <br /> <br /> Method of study is based on a study conducted a review of literature-based inventory and identification of legislation as well as other documents related to the establishment of ALKI which correlated with the sovereignty of the Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia to the type of normative legal research empirical analytical descriptive. <br /> <br /> From the results of the study of various aspects with emphasis on aspects of national defense and security which correlate with the situation and geographical conditions of Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia and also the motives of foreign countries demanding that East - West ALKI should be immediately set, with a sense of nationalism in order to protect the sovereignty of the Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia, the author states that the ALKI East - West is not feasible to set.<p align="justify"> text |
