Summary: | Development of large scale infrastructure, such as highways and railways are expected to impact the quantity, form and amount of development in the future (Berke, 2006).The Cipularang Highway is a large-scale infrastructure that connects Cikampek and Bandung since 2005. The expected impact for the future of the construction is the interaction between infrastructure and regional economic development because of the ease of access as expressed by Christaller (1933). The road has been operating since 2005 and became an alternative pathway for the movement of both goods and human resources from Jakarta to Bandung direction. The lack of studies on spatial economics 1 that include tolls as a major cause of the study, could have been caused by inadequate number of toll roads in Indonesia. Cipularang Highway is the toll that enables easier access between Bandung and Jakarta which will certainly have an impact that affects the national economy in general and the economy of the district of Purwakarta Regency in particular. Purwakarta Regency, which located between two metropolitan, certainly will be affected by a significant impact thus can be observed due to the lack of intervention other location factors in influencing the economic development of the district of Purwakarta Regency. In addition, the knowledge about the impact of this topic will help the making of spatial plans that considers the evaluation of the toll road investment to an area. <br />

The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of Cipularang Highway on spatial economic development district of Purwakarta. While the objective of this study is the identification of the impact on land use changes and population growth Purwakarta, identification of Cipularang Highway impact on the economic development that occurs in Purwakarta, and identification of Cipularang Highway impact on the welfare of the gateway resident of Purwakarta. <br />

Based on the performed analysis, it was concluded that the operation of Cipularang Highway in 2005 has triggered the development of spatial economics of Purwakarta indicated by a change in land use is more significant after 2005 to focusing the development on the gateway, 2,the agglomeration of population growth in 4 districts which less than 10 kilometers away from the exit of Cipularang Highway, the growth and shift in macroeconomic sector sector indicated by GDP, and the increased ease of job finding that felt by residents of the gateway which has a relationship with the increase in revenue. The conclusion from this research is the development Cipularang as a link between two major metropolitan in the western part of Java Island helped Purwakarta Regency to grow the macroeconomy significantly but did not helped the resident to achieve prosperity. |
