SURFACE SUBSIDENCE PREDICTION DUE TO LONGWALL MINING BY EMPIRICAL METHOD

Surface subsidence is a problem that must be occured in longwall mining. So, a study of surface subsidence and its characteristics is required. The characteristic of surface subsidence that will be predicted are maximum subsidence, subsidence profile, and the affected area. The prediction is done em...

So, a study of surface subsidence and its characteristics is required. The characteristic of surface subsidence that will be predicted are maximum subsidence, subsidence profile, and the affected area. The prediction is done empirically using graphical method developed by U.K. National Board and the subsidence profile due to some panels refer to the principle of superposition. Empirical method only considers a few aspects, such as the panel width, panel height, and depth of the panel. Empirical method does not consider the more detailed parameters, such as the characteristics of rock material, rock bedding, the existence of discontinuity and its characteristics. Based on panel design, nine panels with varying lengths from 1511.2 meters to 2365 meters, 200 meters wide, 2.7 meters high, and 200 meters depth, the maximum subsidence due to the opening of longwall mining panel is 2.32 meter and the affected area is 395.62 ha. text
