Description
Summary:

The modern manufacturing industry has an automation capability that is capable to monitor every production process event occurred within the industry. Monitoring activity allows each production element to know its condition. In machine tools, monitoring of cutting times is required to determine the scheduling of maintenance and the determination of a suitable tool in carrying out a machining process. Monitoring the value of energy consumption is also needed to determine the efficiency of a machine in running a machining process. The phenomenon that can be utilized to obtain information on cutting time and value of energy consumption is the change of current value in machine tools.

A module was built to get the information of cutting time and energy consumption with case study of CNC VMC 250 machine. The monitored currents are the main current and the spindle motor current. The devices used for designing cutting time and energy consumption monitoring module are Wemos D1 Mini, Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, WLAN Adapter, power supply, and ACS712 current sensor. The cutting time and energy consumption module has been able to send information into the database.
