Description
Summary:
In the second decade of 21st Century, China laid claim into a major part of North Natuna Sea-commonly known as South China Sea—based on Chinese historical fishing grounds. The claims are called Nine-Dashed Line. The claims also intruded Indonesian territory. Thus, flash points were rampant and became a big conventional threat to Indonesia. This thesis intended to compare available and future Indonesian air defence platforms and recommend which platform works best against the Chinese carrier Liaoning (CV-16), including its air wing.

To achieve the intended purposes, this thesis used Extended Air Defence Simulation (EADSIM) simulation-based research. EADSIM simulates a user-specified scenario to produce an accurate war simulation-in this case between Indonesia and China. Data generated by EADSIM was interpreted into mission success probability, kills per firing attempt, and percentage of platform survived. Moreover, a benefit/cost analysis was conducted. Following, a comparative analysis based on EADSIM data interpretations and benefit/cost analysis was held. The result will likely help policy makers to decide which air defence platforms are appropriate to defend Natuna Island from the Chinese threat.
