Summary: |
Akimeugah Basin consists of hydrocarbon potential indicated by some oil and gas seepages around the Central Range of Papua, Akimeugah Basin. This indicates that the existed source rock has been matured. However, to date not found yet any economic resources to be produced. One of the alternative for obtaining the resources in the world is unconventional resources potential such shale gas which refers to natural gas that is trapped within shale formation (source rock). Nevertheless, mostly the shale gas research in Indonesia conducted in tertiary age formation, instead of producing shale gas from older formation which is carried out in some common fields. It is assumed that younger formation is more difficult to be artificially fractured. Piniya Formation is one of the Pre-tertiary source rock in Akimeugah Basin, hence it is necessary to evaluate unconventional shale gas resources in order to further comprehension about its potential. The data utilized in conducting this research consist of 2 drilling well data, ASM-1 and Kola-1. They are wireline log, mud log, biostratigraphy, geochemical data and 33 seismic line length 1089 km. This research covers area about 15380 km2. The determination of shale gas potential evaluation based on richness, maturity, brittleness index and shale thickness resulted from wellbore analysis and subsurface map of Piniya Formation. As a result, the research indicates that Piniya Formation was deposited in the Outer Neritic Environment (shelf) that contents fair – good richness with TOC value around 0.6% - 1.3% and brittleness index about 0.4 – 0.6 which experienced increment TOC richness and brittleness index to the landward, in result, there are two shale gas potential prospect areas content 18,8 x 1011 ft3 shale gas bulk volume in prospect area I and 33,9 x 1011 ft3 shale gas bulk volume in prospect area II.
|
