Summary: | There are three main component, which are used to describe operational characteristic of traffic flow, namely Speed which is defined as the distance travelled by vehicle in a unit time, Volume which is defined as the number of vehicle passing road section in a unit time, and Density which is defined as the number of vehicle occupying a given length of the road segment, which is usually expressed in vehicle per mile or per km. The study found that there is a significant different in travelling speed of two studied roads. This is because of the differences in the geometric conditions of the roads, which include the use of median in By Pass Ngurah Rai Road. There is no significant increase in density caused by the increase of traffic volume, since the traffic composition consists of various type of vehicles, and 55 % of them are motorcycles. In The study, the relationships between the three main traffic flow component is measured and analysed by using four mathematical models approach, namely Greenshields linear model, Greenberg logaritmic model, Underwood exponential model, and quadratical exponential model of The University of Northwestern. Simple regression analysis on Underwood model has better result than the other models, such as r2 = 0.70581 for Gatot Subroto Road, r2 x.7166 and r` =0,7285 for By Pass Ngurah Rai Road. But by considering the actual site conditions, it is found that Greenshields model is more suitable for describing the traffic characteristic on two studied roads. |
