Description
Summary:
The Seribu Sub-basin located in the eastern part of the Sunda Basin is a Tertiary sedimentary basin. This basin is located 140 km offshore of the Jakarta Bay and has sediment thickness about 16,000 feet. Overpressure in the study area usually encountered by deep wells, reaching the depth greater than 9,000 ft, or if they penetrate syn-rift portion of the basin.
In this study, several analyses have been conducted including distribution, causes, and estimation of overpressure in the study area. The data used to analyse the overpressure are well log data, pore pressure data, mud weight data, source rock maturity data, and geology final well report. These data analysis could be used for detecting the overpressure mechanism in the study area
Based on pore pressure analysis in the Seribu Sub-basin, overpressure in this area caused by two mechanisms i.e, loading and hydrocarbon maturity mechanism. Loading mechanism occurs in the depth around 6,800-9,000 ft, while hydrocarbon maturity mechanism occurs in the depth around 8,700-10,500 ft. The top of overpressure caused by hydrocarbon maturation occurs in the Lower Talangakar Formation. The difference in the top of overpressure is affected by the location to the basin depocenter.
